In an illuminating conversation, which included many mutual reminiscences, David spoke about starting out in dance, performing in his home country (Canada), in Berlin and on 'gala' tours, his early days as a Director in Columbus,Ohio, and his 20 years at the head of Northern Ballet.
Discussion of David's approach to choreography, to choosing dancers who would be a good 'fit' for the Company, and to operating within the constraints imposed by touring and budget limitations was especially illuminating, as was his summation of the role of a Director, "It's not about you at all - you're there for other people".
