The London Ballet Circle hosted an enlightening In Conversation event with Joseph Taylor, a Premier Dancer of Northern Ballet on zoom. Hailing from Skegness, Joseph shared his remarkable journey from local training to becoming a leading figure in the revival of London City Ballet.
Joseph discussed his early dance education, which began under the tutelage of Janice Sutton and Joy Everett. His talent was further nurtured through weekly classes at the Royal Ballet Associate program in Covent Garden, which he said is where his artistry really began to develop. At the age of 16, he embarked on full-time professional training at Elmhurst Ballet School, in association with the Birmingham Royal Ballet.
Upon graduating, Joseph joined Northern Ballet as an apprentice. Over the past 12 years, he has risen through the ranks to achieve the prestigious title of Premier Dancer in 2022. Joseph shared stories from his career, during which he has performed an array of both classic and contemporary works by eminent choreographers such as David Nixon, Kenneth MacMillan, Cathy Marston, Kenneth Tindall, Hans van Manen, and Jean-Christophe Maillot.
During the event, Joseph expressed his excitement about his latest endeavour: participating in the revival of the London City Ballet under the directorship of Christopher Marney. This new chapter in his career promises to expand his repertoire and connect with new audiences.
The London Ballet Circle is grateful to Joseph Taylor for sharing his insights and providing a captivating glimpse into the life of a premier dancer.
