The 2024 Fonteyn Competition opened on August 31st with a reception at the global headquarters of the Royal Academy of Dance in London. Sixty-four excited young dancers from thirteen countries gathered to begin an intense week of classes, coaching and competition. This is one of the most prestigious competitions in the world and has a long history of showcasing the brightest and most talented of the RAD’s students.
Through the coming week, they will work with world renowned professionals, honing their skills and learning new choreography from specially commissioned choreographer Andrew McNicol. While the thought of winning is a strong motivator for these young dancers, so is the opportunity to work with this stellar lineup.
Lynn Wallace, former Artistic Director of the RAD and producer of the Fonteyn Competition, welcomed the competitors and their coaches/parents. She, along with current Artistic Director Alexander Campbell, encouraged the dancers to work hard and have fun. Being in London with fellow dancers from all over the world will expand their training and lead to new friendships.
The London Ballet Circle is proud to have sponsored the welcome reception and four of its members were privileged to attend.
