Cathy Marston is an international choreographer and Artistic Director, who joins artistic dots and creates form for stories, emotions and ideas. She gives new perspectives to old narratives; offers original ideas to new audiences and crafts unexpected matches between classical and contemporary art forms. She bases her work on expressive integrity and technical quality, reconciling discord with grace. A natural mediator, Cathy combines artistic vision with practical prowess to achieve her objectives.”

British-Swiss choreographer Cathy Marston has been the director of Ballett Zürich since the beginning of the 2023/24 season. In her first season, she created the full-length ballet Atonement for the company, based on the successful novel of the same name by Ian McEwan.  Her second ballet for the company is Clara, based on the life of musician Clara Schumann, which premieres in October 2024.

Cathy trained at the Royal Ballet School and was Associate Artist (Choreographer) at the ROH from 2003-2007, director of Bern Ballett (2007-2013) and is a Clore Cultural Leadership Fellow since 2013.

Other ballets created include:

- Jane Eyre (Northern Ballet 2016, now also at ABT, Hamburg, Joffrey)

- Snowblind based on Edith Wharton’s novel ‘Ethan Frome’ (Atlanta 2023, now also San Francisco and Nashville)

- Summer and Smoke inspired by the play by Tennessee Williams (2023 co-production of Houston and ABT)
