Andrew McNicol, choreographer and founding Artistic Director of McNicol Ballet Collective, joins Deborah Weiss In Conversation.

Andrew’s first public appearance as a dancer was as a child onstage at Hull New Theatre. He trained at The Royal Ballet School where he started choreographing and went on to
win the Kenneth MacMillan Choreographic competition. He completed his formal training with an MA at Central Ballet’s Professional Choreographic competition.
Andrew's choreography has captivated audiences worldwide, with creations for prestigious companies such as Joffrey Ballet, The Royal Ballet, (London), Royal Ballet of Flanders, BalletX (Philadelphia), National Ballet Portugal (2024), Northern Ballet, New York Choreographic Institute, Tulsa Ballet, Jacob’s Pillow (USA), Junior Ballet Antwerp, as well as for The Royal Ballet School, English National Ballet School (Artistic Associate 2021-2024), The Fonteyn 2024 and the London 2012 Olympics, among others.

Deborah Weiss has called him “One of the UK’s most talented young choreographers, already with a large portfolio of successes”. Backtrack, Deborah Weiss 2023. McNicol's work stands out for its poetic beauty and deep connection between movement and music. His ability to blend the classical ballet vocabulary of his training with a refreshing
modern sensibility, results in full length and one act ballets that exude an emotional
physicality and inventiveness.

McNicol Ballet Collective is presenting its fifth anniversary programme, Here & Now, at the Royal Academy of Music, London on 5th April and at Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre, Leeds on 12th April.
