Freed have generously offered us two tours of their factory in Hackney, East London to take place in June 2024.
Each tour can accommodate 10 people. There are stairs in the factory, which will unfortunately limit this event to those without mobility constraints.
We do ask that members who have previously attended hold back to allow others a chance to attend this time.
The factory is a busy place (we do know that professional dancers need many pointe shoes each month!) and so we are very grateful to the staff for allowing us to interrupt their working day.
DATES: Wednesday 12 June and Tuesday 25 June 2024.
TIME: We are invited to arrive at 10am, for a 10.15 start. The tour will end by midday.
VENUE: Freed of London, 62/64 Well Street, Hackney, London E9 7PX
For tube/bus users, one route is to take the District Line to MILE END, and then bus 277 passes directly by the factory. There are other routes, including bus 26 which also traverses Well Street.
Extract from FREED OF LONDON website:
“Freed of London is the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of professional dance shoes. With an extensive history dating back to 1929, Freed of London shoes are hand crafted in the UK.
From humble beginnings in London’s West End, Freed of London was founded by cobbler Frederick Freed in 1929. Working from a basement in Covent Garden, the same site where the brand’s flagship store now stands, Mr Freed and his wife revolutionised the dance shoe industry by tailoring shoes to a dancer’s individual needs. To this day this philosophy remains, and Freed of London shoes continue to be made by hand in the UK.
Waiting List: we will operate a waiting list once the event is fully booked. Please contact [email protected] if you would like to join this list. It is likely that late cancellations will be at short notice.
